Why Does My Soap Smell Good Enough To Eat?

BEHIND THE BAR

I've been accused of making soap that looks like food.

I'll admit it.

Guilty.

But there's a perfectly good reason.

I love food.

Before Bar became Bar, I spent years working in catering and as a personal chef. Food has always been a huge part of my life, so when I started making soap, it probably shouldn't have surprised anyone that my imagination immediately went to cocktails, desserts and things that smell absolutely delicious.

And that's how Bar started to take shape.

The inspiration behind Bar

One of the first things that caught my attention about handmade soap was how creative it could be.

I saw a photo of a beautifully made bar of soap and thought:

"That looks good enough to eat."

And that little thought turned into an entire business.

Instead of making soap that simply looked like soap, I started playing with colors, layers, swirls, embeds and fragrances inspired by things I already loved.

Cocktails.

Desserts.

Coffee.

The beach.

Basically, if it makes me happy, there's a pretty good chance I'll eventually wonder:

"Could I turn that into soap?"

Welcome to the Cocktail Bar

Some of my favorite creations are inspired by cocktails.

Amaretto Cherry Sour brings together cherry-inspired fragrance and layers of color.

Apricot Spritz has the juicy sweetness you'd expect from its name.

Melon Mojito brings a fresh, fruity twist.

And Driftwood Rhum Punch is inspired by one of my favorite drinks from Sint Maarten.

These aren't meant to be exact replicas of the drinks themselves.

They're Bar's interpretation of the experience—the colors, the memories, the aromas and the fun.

Then there's the Bakery Bar

If you walk into my soap studio and suddenly feel like you should be standing in front of a bakery case, that's probably my fault.

Banana Fana.

Iced Oatmeal Cookie.

Lemon Sensation.

Pumpkin Spice Buttercream.

I love creating soaps that make you stop and take a second sniff because your brain can't quite decide whether you're holding a bar of soap or something that belongs in the dessert aisle.

There's one important rule

Please don't eat the soap.

I know.

It looks tempting.

It may smell delicious.

It may even have little embeds and toppings that make it look suspiciously like dessert.

But it's soap.

Your shower will appreciate it.

Your stomach will not.

Why make soap this way?

Because bathing doesn't have to be boring.

There are plenty of practical things we use every day that don't have to be purely practical.

Why shouldn't your soap make you smile?

Why shouldn't a bar remind you of your favorite cocktail?

Why shouldn't a scent transport you to a beach vacation?

Why shouldn't your shower smell like fresh-baked cookies?

That's the fun of Bar.

I make soap for people who appreciate the little things—and don't take their soap too seriously.

So if you like your skin care with a side of cocktails, desserts, travel and a healthy dose of humor...

Welcome to Bar. You've found your people.
